Mondim

Mondim by Retrosaria Rosa Pomar, the well-known Portuguese sock yarn without nylon or polyamide.

Colors 100 and 400 are natural colors. The mixed colors (200 series) are dyed using traditional methods, which may result in variations between batches and therefore may deviate from the photos.

The entire process—from sheep to wool—takes place in Portugal.

Mondim refers to the city of Mondim da Beira. A well-known Portuguese ethnographer named the town Mondim das Meias, Mondim of the Socks, for its highly productive cottage industry of sock production: The women [of Mondim] never stop knitting: sometimes while walking slowly with a baby pressed to their chest or with a jug of water on their head, sometimes while sitting in a sunny corner of the yard, sometimes in the evening, in a shop or in the kitchen, by the dim light of the traditional olive oil lamp.
